Nowadays, Big Data Analytics plays a pivotal role in our daily lives, some of the capabilities and limitations are astounding. The observed correlation and representativeness of the data are also biased. Wong embraced “Contemporary Art” calculated by big data and used the trilogy Healing Watercolour Art, Pastel Nagomi Art, and Beaded Crafts as the starting point and medium to reflect the “Contemporary Art” in big data and the market, and for her. In the first part of the series, Wong appropriates the Watercolour teaching materials and settles the landscape theme. While replicability challenges the artist’s uniqueness, the depiction of bright colour tones urges the artist and the viewers to think about the predetermined perceptions of various landscapes. When the work is no longer unique but simultaneously authentic, the artist rediscovered her identity and the meaning of her practice. This show invites the visitors to gaze at the world in fragments within the landscape of landscape paintings. Doris Wong Wai Yin, graduated from CUHK PhD in Chinese Art History in 2024, with a research focus on Hong Kong Contemporary Art.
